Watch how BIM enabled the vision of Victoria Gate Shopping Centre come to life

Victoria Gate Shopping Centre is one the most envied shopping centres on a global scale and presents a design style that blends the traditional with the contemporary by using progressive building materials and techniques.

In this Hammerson led development, we were appointed by the main contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine, having worked together on other BIM-led construction projects, the contractor selected BIM. Technologies for our ability to achieve results by enabling projects to realise their targets in real-time, and achieve delivery efficiencies in cost and time savings.

We worked with the BIM models from each of the three sub-contractors; Thorpe Precast, Finley Structures and Moore Steel Developments plus other parties within the project.

With over 54 separate models, across the three buildings from 14 different companies, we imported all of these into our own Warboard collaboration software to identify clashes.

By setting up a dedicated BIM Team, enabled us to convey the scope, steps and outcomes of the project. Having a fully rendered 3D model of the design of the facades meant that we had all project intelligence at our fingertips, with fewer opportunities for error.

We were then able to apply this information to logistics and sequencing animations to show the varying build phases.

In this short video, see how we achieved results and the outcomes of BIM implementation on this impressive project.
